Family time

I was back in NY for Jesse's graduation this holiday weekend. Thursday, his family flew into Buffalo so we had a big meet and greet to-do, kind of a big deal. It went really well. His family, with the exception of his father, was pretty uncomfortable for the first half, but thanks to my fun loving (and booze loving) family, they pulled his mother/brother/nephew out of their shells and everyone ended up having a good time.

It was a really nice weekend overall, and his family is sweet, but I am finally away from them and I need to vent! They are sooo slow!!! Everything takes them 5x longer than it would take a normal person, like 15 minutes to pee. They ask so many dumb questions that anyone could answer, such as "Why are there so many no turn on red signs?" Well probably because there are so many students! And they are really out of shape so going anywhere had them huffing and puffing, in addition to them complaining that it was hot (even though San Antonio is 100 degrees right now...)

Enough of that. I had to vent somewhere, because I couldn't tell Jesse just how annoyed I was getting. Despite all that, the weekend was really nice. He had his commissioning on Saturday, which is the mot important event in an officer's life. I teared up. And Maya Angelou spoke at convocation. She made his mom cry, and made me cry, which made Jesse cry when he saw me and her crying and hugging. After commencement, we went to NYC because his father and nephew had never been. They are so easily entertained that they were amazed by billboards. (Sorry I didn't call Jen, I was only there for a day)

Overall it was successful. Next week I'm going down to San Antonio for his graduation party and have to meet the ENTIRE family. Wish me luck!

Im Stealing Kelsey's Thunder!!!

I quit my job... but i got a new awesome one. I am the new account coordinator at Potomac Management Resources. My primary client will be the woman's bar association, i will work a couple of blocks from meg's work in alexandria, and i get paid more!!!! WOOO!!! Best birthday present ever to myself.

I want to thank all of you who came out for my birthday. It was so much fun, from what i remember. If you missed it... basically everyone drank a lot and laura said i somehow made my way to the stripper pole? still trying to piece things together but it was fantastic. There was confusion with the bar tab but, it will work out and it was wayyy worth it. my drunk alter ego "Destiny" came out.

i think the last thing i have to say is... my birth control costs too much now and i think im going to change it for the very first time. so if you can all tell me what kind you are on and like how you like it that would be cool. i just want more boobage, and i dont want to lose what i have.

I got a job!!

I got a teaching job for next fall. I am going to be the fifth grade teacher at Vail Mountain School, which is a really nice private school up here. It was really a whirlwind process, and I was insanely nervous about getting it. A couple weeks ago I went in just to pick up the application materials. The woman in charge of hiring (who is the director of the lower school, it's a k-12 school) told me they only had 2 positions open (4th and 5th) and that they had already had a large number of applicants from all over the country. She said she wanted to have her hiring done by May 15th (this was May 2nd). So while I expected to pick up the application and then have at least a week to look over stuff since I'd been out of the education world for a year, she told me to come in the next morning at 730 to interview. I interviewed with her and about 6 others and then Andy and I headed of on our vaca. While we were driving she called and said I did well and they would like me to come back for a full day interview which would include teaching a lesson and meeting with the headmaster. That was planned for Monday, and we got back Sunday (that made for a stressful Sunday!). Anyway, that went well also and I just got a call from her yesterday offering me the 5th grade position. I was pretty stoked I got that one, because I was expecting fourth. The fourth grade position is a one year position with evaluation afterwards to maybe move to another grade, but the fifth grade position is a guaranteed 2 year position.

The school is great and I've loved everyone I have met there thus far. My class size is going be 12-14 students, and in the winter we only have class Mon-Thurs. On Fridays we go skiing. From what I have heard thus far, I think it's going to be a lot of fun (certainly a lot of work though too). Anyway, that is my big news. I am finally joining the real work force!

home stupid home

Well I am home from Hawaii, and it is fucking snowing here!! 430+ inches of snow this season, and I am now pretty much over it! Last time I checked, it was the middle of May and I'm ready for it to be pretty much summer.

Anyway, Hawaii was AMAZING! We had gorgeous weather the entire time, with only a couple scattered showers and then blue skies immediately after. The entire time we were at the Princeville, everyone was calling me Mrs. Sutton. At one point, I asked Andy if that freaked him out and he said, "why would it? You're going to be." We actually talked about our future a lot this trip. To save myself from ruthless teasing, I won't go too into detail about the conversations, but lets just say, I wouldn't be suprised if I have a ring on my finger a year from now.

During our time at the hotel, we pretty much stayed there except for dinners. Our days mostly consisted of breakfast on that deck, sitting by the pool drinking Mai Tais until after sunset, getting ready for dinner, and then ending up eating dinner at the grocery store. Everything in Hanalei stopped serving food by 9, and despite learning this the very first night, we never made it out for dinner there. Luckily the golf course restaurant had delicious sushi, so we did that a couple nights.

The rest of the trip we stayed at this BEAUTIFUL 8 bedroom house right off the beach. The house was so cool, and the backyard was even cooler. We were hearing all about the parties that go on there. Actually, Sting was at one the latest parties, and stayed in the house for a while. While we stayed at the house, we explored different beaches and sites on the northshore by day, and had bonfires at the beach next to the house by night. Friday was awesome because Andy wanted to play the Princeville golf course, which OBVIOUSLY didn't interest me, so I got to spend the day at the spa there instead :-).

All in all, it was a fabulous vacation, and I am not happy to be home (maybe when the sun comes out I'll feel a LITTLE different). I posted pictures on Facebook if you're interested.

I miss you all like crazy, and I want to come visit SO bad! Being unemployed with no money is making that a little difficult though. Hopefully I'll have my summer job worked out by the end of the week and then I can start really thinking about it. I hope all is well with you guys!

Reunion, of Sorts

Hi Girls!!

Ok, it's been forever and ever since I've written on the blog, so I thought I'd make a comeback :)

This past weekend was great, it was soo nice to see everyone (minus, of course, our resident snow-bunny and Newman)! To catch you two up, I came in on Friday and spent the night at Emily's - Jade, Kathy, and Liz came, and we all went over to see Becky. It was good to see that she's doing well. Ryan Kamauff was there, we watched a movie, fell asleep, picked ourselves up, and went back to Em's. Kathy and I found no spiders in Katie's bed, but it was kind of a restless sleep.... On Saturday, Em went for her "Stream Walk" (yea, I said wtf too lol - only at Friends, I think) and the rest of us packed up and shipped out for Annapolis, or A-Pole, as I have dubbed it. Lizzie and I dodged traffic to go to Panera, only to be semi-harassed by a grumpy bagel girl - we were feeling adventurous. I've got to say, Liz and Meg have created the cutest apartment - so what I would have expected from them! I guess everything is cyclical, huh? - they started out as roomies, and are once again living together :-) Anyway, so we all went and saw Made of Honor - which was too cute, and I think my secret love for Patrick Dempsey has only quadrupled since then. We went out that night to this bar, Pusser's (correct?) where we made friends - not by choice!! Meg had an admirer, who kept calling her quiet girl and kept telling me he knew I was smart, and Lizzie got drunk :-). Good times. Meg made breakfast on Sunday (what a hostess!) and then that afternoon, Haris picked me up for dinner in DC with friends......and that was my MD reunion :-)

My New Year's Resolution, yes, it's really really tardy, is to be 10x better about staying in touch - I know I'm the worst at it. I realized after this weekend how much I really missed hanging out with everyone, even if we're not doing much. I think I also realized how out of the loop I've been after looking around Meg and Liz's place and seeing myself in barely any recent photos - that was kind of eye-opening. So, with that being said, I love you girls, and I'm going to try and be a much more present friend, thought I am out of state :)

Love, Jen
